When do I need to worry about Making Tax Digital for Income Tax?
That’s a very difficult question as MTD proposed legislation seems to be a moving feast, and there is some concern that a Labour Government (should we get one) will scrap it all together.
At the moment, the first tax return to be impacted by MTD for SA is 2026/27 (from 6 April 2026) but only if your turnover is over £50k. It is 2027/28 if your turnover is over £30k, with the expectation that the turnover limit will drop to £10k the year after.
Remember that this applies to Landlords as well as sole traders and partnerships.
However, Xero has a lot of benefits over and above compliance, and should not just be viewed with compliance in mind.
